Richard “Rick” LaVerne Bates, Jr., age 49, of 5881 26th Lane; Gladstone, passed away on Friday, March 13th, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital.

On January 3rd, 1960, Rick was born to Richard and Jacqueline (Swick) Bates, Sr. in Rockford, Illinois and was raised in the Rockford area.  He later relocated to Gladstone where he has resided since.

Fishing, playing pool, dancing, and spending time with family and friends where activities that Rick enjoyed and appreciated.

3 Brothers- James Bates of Wisconsin; Jack Bates of Minnesota; Ron Sinnaeve of Wells, MI

3 Sisters-Sandy Bates of Gladstone; Jackie (Scott) Mack of Carney, MI; Pam (Lou) Quaranta of Rockford, Ill.

and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by paternal and maternal grandparents.

The family of Rick Bates will receive friends on Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00. Service celebrating Rick Bates life will follow on Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt officiating. Luncheon will follow service in the church fellowship hall. The Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the family.
