Gerald “Jerry” L. Danhoff, age 77, of 7730 Summit 19.55 Drive, Gladstone, passed away Tuesday morning March 31, 2009, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Jerry was born March 10, 1932, in Cadillac, MI, the son of Ed and Minnie (Case) Danhof. He was raised in Cadillac and attended and graduated from the Cadillac Senior High School. Following high school, Jerry went on to attend one year at Hillsdale College. On June 14, 1952, Jerry was united in marriage, in Cadillac, MI, to the former June Vanderhoof before enlisting in the United States Army where he served during the Korean War Conflict. Upon his discharge, Jerry returned to Michigan to attend and graduate from Central Michigan University, receiving his Master’s Degree in Education. Jerry and June made their home and began their family in Farwell, MI where Jerry worked as a teacher and coach eventually relocating to East Jordan, MI and then on to Barryton, MI, to accept a position as the school district principal before finally settling in Gladstone, in 1969, and accepting a position as the elementary school supervisor for the Gladstone School System. He retired in 1988 from the Gladstone School System and returned back to Cadillac where he and June resided until November of 2008 before moving back to Gladstone to be closer to family. Jerry was a member of the Cadillac American Legion Post #94422 and the Gladstone Lions Club. He enjoyed playing golf, tinkering in his garage, spending time at camp, having cook-outs on the family pontoon boat, and volunteering at the Salvation Army in Cadillac. In addition, Jerry loved playing his banjo, singing and spending quality time with his family and grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, June:

2 Daughters: Tracie (Paul) Leonardi of Franklin, WI; Polly (Jack) Williams of Lake Isabella, MI

1 Brother: Jack (Gladys) Danhof of Cadillac, MI

9 Grandchildren: Casey, Amanda, Elliot, Corey, Jamie, Emma, Tessa, Chase and
Macen

Also listed among the surviving family are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

2 Sisters: Dorothy Knudson and Edna Horsfall

Jerry’s family will receive friends for a memorial luncheon on Saturday April 4, 2009, from 1:00PM to 3:00PM, at the Family Inn Restaurant in Wells. Contributions in Jerry’s name maybe directed to the Gladstone Area Schools Scholarship Fund. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Danhoff family with arrangements.
