Norman A. Hagman, 87, of 502 S. 13th Street, passed away Monday morning March 23, 2009 at home.
Norman was born September 18, 1921 in Gladstone the son of Isaac and Anna (Sigfried) Hagman. Norman was raised in Gladstone and he attended the Flat Rock Public Schools.
Norman was united in marriage to the former Mildred Skoglund on August 29, 1942 in Gladstone. Shortly following his marriage to Mildred, Norman served his country in the U.S. Army where he served with Battery B 348th Field Artillery Battalion. He fought in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. Upon his honorable discharge on October 29, 1945, he was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal, the American Theatre Service Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars and the Bronze Star Medal.
Norman returned to Gladstone where he worked for Mead Paper Company and later for Northern Rebuilders Company until he was injured at work.
Norman was a member of the Escanaba V.F.W. and his hobbies included working in his garden with his wife Mildred. He also enjoyed hunting deer, doing carpentry work and woodworking. Norman treasured spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, Mildred, survivors include:
2 daughters; Cheryl (Joseph) Bernier of Escanaba and Susan (Steven) Hamilton of Noblesville, IN
8 grandchildren; Cynthia (John) Kelly, Deborah (Andrew) Jamrog, Angela (Jason) Lewis, Catherine Bernier, Kristy (Danny) Goodwin, Jeffery (Kimberly) Hamilton, Tarah (Steve) Heitman and Nadine Bernier.
13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by;
4 brothers; Soren, Raymond, Laurence and Melvin Hagman
3 sisters; Gertrude Hagman, Clarice Parrow and Norma Skaug
According to Norman’s wishes, private visitation and funeral services will be held at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Military rites conducted by the Gladstone American Legion Post #71 will also be conducted. He will be laid to rest at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.
