John D. “Jack” MacGillis, age 76, of 2100 1st Avenue South, Escanaba, passed away Wednesday morning March 4, 2009, at the Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers.

Jack was born July 4, 1932, in Escanaba, the son of John R. and Evelyn (Sauve) MacGillis. Jack was raised in Escanaba and attended the Escanaba School System.

On June 14, 1958, Jack was united in marriage to the former Beverly Chenier at the Holy Family Catholic Church and together the couple built their home and raised their family in Flat Rock. Throughout his life, Jack worked, as a conductor/brakeman, for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He retired from Chicago Northwestern following 38 years of employment. Jack especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

2 Daughters: Sue Ann Roberts of Appleton, WI; Julie Ann (Todd) Leisner of Green Bay, WI

1 Brother: Rod (Kay) MacGillis of Gladstone, MI

1 Sister: Kay (Gerald) Englund of Ford River, MI

4 Grandchildren: Christina Roberts; Nicole Deming; Autumn Leisner; Leeza Leisner

Also listed among the surviving family are several nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Evelyn MacGillis.

Jack’s family will receive friends on Monday from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock. Mass of Christian Burial Services will follow visitation, at 12:00PM, at Holy Family Church, with Rev. Fr. Jose Maramattam officiating. Luncheon will follow in the Holy Family Parish Hall. Committal rites will take place, in the Spring time, at the Escanaba Township (Flat Rock) Cemetery.
