Angeline “Angie” Hixon, age 78, of 2509 5th Avenue South, in Escanaba passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009 at the Aurora Bay Care Medical Facility in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Angie was born April 14, 1931 in Sault Ste. Marie, MI the daughter of John and Mary (Spina) Poglese.
Angie was united in marriage to Vernon Hixon on April 25, 1949 in Sault Ste. Marie. They made their home in Cornell and Gladstone where they raised their four children.
Angie served as the secretary for the Cornell Elementary School after which she became the owner and head chef of Angie’s Place in Sault St. Marie for many years. She served authentic Italian cuisine and had a huge following. Angie was a devout catholic and active with her church in Sault Ste. Marie. She was also very active with the Coast Guard Auxiliary and together with her husband made several rescues for the Coast Guard. Angie enjoyed boating, going to camp, crafts, flowers, ceramics and cooking. She was also a member of the Red Hats Club. Family was very important to Angie and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Angie is survived by:
2 sons: Elvin (the best looking) of Gladstone and Daryll (the most talented and free spirit) of Rapid River
2 daughters: Terri (Peter) Gaeta (the oldest and blondest) of Charlotte, North Carolina and Angela (Mike) Watkins (the prettiest and smartest) of Green Bay, Wisconsin
Daughter-in-law: Debra Hixon of Gladstone
2 Sisters: Pauline Nierenberger and Rosie (Dave) Ousler, both of Florida
4 Grandchildren: Vern and Steven Hixon of Gladstone; Kaitlyne Hixon and Vincent Micheau of Rapid River
Numerous nieces and nephews
In addition to Vernon, Angie’s husband of 59 years, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother-Mike (Della) Poglese and brother-in-law-Mike Nierenberger.
Angie’s family will receive friends on Saturday, April 25 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Memorial services will follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. A luncheon will follow services at the home of Angie’s son, E.J. Angie and Vernon will be laid to rest in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie.
