Steven “Steve” Kozar, age 85, of 6397 North 5th Street, Wells, passed away early Thursday morning, April 2, 2009, at the Pinecrest Medical Care facility in Powers where he has resided for the past two years.
Steve was born December 31, 1923, in Wells, the son of Ignatz and Barbara (Smokavich) Kozar. Steve was raised in Wells and attended the Wells school system. Throughout his life, Steve was employed as a Teamster Helper, tending to the island’s team of horses, at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. He retired following thirty eight years of employment. Steve enjoyed spending time with family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include: 3 Brothers: Joseph (Helen) Kozar of Shingle Springs, CA; Rudy (Mary Ann) Kozar of Escanaba, MI; Anthony (Tim) Kozar of Ontario, CA
Sister: Mildred Kozar of Milwaukee, WI
Also listed among the surviving family are many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Kozar family will receive friends on Wednesday April 8, 2009, from 9:30AM to 11:15AM, at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial Services will follow visitation, on Wednesday, at 12:00PM, at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Wells with Rev. Fr. Rick Courier officiating. Luncheon will follow in the St. Anthony Parish Hall. Committal will follow at the Gardens of Rest Cemetery. The Skradski-Boyce Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are in care of arrangements.
