Mitchell Mulhern

Mitchell "Mitch" Mulhern, age 79, of 2918 13th Street in Menominee, MI passed away Monday morning April 13, 2009, at the home of his grandson, Cory, in Escanaba following a battle with cancer. 

Mitch was born August 27, 1929 in Sawyer, Wisconsin to Jacob “Jack” and Ethel (Prim) Mulhern. He was raised in Arizona and loved being on the ranch. At the age of 14, Mitch ran away and joined the rodeo, which became his passion, especially bronco riding. He later enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly as a veteran on the Korean Conflict. Mitch moved to Michigan following his military service and has resided in the Escanaba and Gladstone areas for the past forty years. On March 14, 1954 Mitch was united in marriage to Hazel Bricker in South Bend, Indiana. Their union lasted nearly fifty years. Mitch worked as a painter and steeplechaser for the majority of his life. Some of Mitch’s more notable jobs would be working on the smoke stacks at the paper mill just days before one of them collapsed and painting the water tower in Escanaba. He also roofed many of the homes in Escanaba. Mitch enjoyed traveling and site seeing on his way to visiting family and friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mitch was an avid bowler, pool player and dart-ball player. He played in many leagues throughout Gladstone and Escanaba over the years. He also enjoyed fishing with his wife.

Mitch is survived by:
3 sons: Dale (Mary) Mulhern of California; Earl Mulhern of Escanaba; Mickey (Jeanette) Mulhern of Escanaba

5 Daughters: Tanya Mulhern of Escanaba; Terri Mulhern of Manistique; Denise (Steve) Popour of Menominee; Wanda Breault of Escanaba; Lorna (Rich) Marchese of Williamsburg, VA

18 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren

1 Sister: Margie Alsup of Watervliet, MI

Numerous Nieces and Nephews

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel on March 25, 2003; a daughter, Doris Mulhern; his parents; 2 granddaughters, Sandra Kay and Debra Sue Lee; 2 brothers, John and Dan; 3 sisters, Marie Clements, Fran Gettig and Norella Mulhern.

A private Memorial Service will be held in Mitch’s honor. The Mulhern family is being assisted by the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba.
