Roberta Norton

Roberta L.”Bobbie” Norton, age 87, of Gladstone, Michigan passed away Saturday, April 11th, 2009 at the Lakeview Assisted Living.

Roberta was born on November 21, 1921 in Walkerton, Indiana the daughter of Robert and Ebba Patterson. She grew up in Escanaba, Michigan and was a 1939 graduate of Escanaba Senior High School. Following graduation she worked as a photographer’s assistant at Sid Ridings Photography. She later worked as a teller at the local Rapid River Bank and then as the receptionist in the medical office of Dr. Otto S. Hult.

On February 2, 1946 Roberta Patterson married Raymond P. Norton in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They settled in Gladstone where they raised their son and spent the rest of their lives.

Roberta was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Gladstone where she participated in choir; alter guild, and a variety of other activities. She was also involved in Cub Scouts and Child’s Welfare. Roberta was an accomplished artist and enjoyed seasonal sports and the company of her many friends throughout her life.

Roberta will be missed by her son, Patrick and his wife Pamela and her granddaughter, Emily. She is survived by her sister, Mildred (Ted) Dart. Surviving nieces and nephews include: Susan Beauchamp, Sally Niquette, Millie (Guy) Hurkman, Tom Antonson, Judy (Roger) Sabota, Jim Casmir, and Mary Grace Casmir.

In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her husband Raymond as well as her sister, Ruth Antonson, and her niece, Mary Mineau.

The family of Roberta L. Norton will receive friends on Tuesday at the Skradski Funeral Home  in Gladstone from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Services celebrating Bobbie Norton’s live will follow on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. with Reverend Jonathan Schmidt of the First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery in Wells.

The Norton family respectfully requests memorials to be directed to the First Lutheran Church, Gladstone. The family would like to thank the caring staff of Lakeview Assisted Living of Gladstone and the First Lutheran Church as well as family and friends and the people of Gladstone for helping to complete a life well lived.
