Margaret Palmquist

Died June 27, 2009


On June 27, 2009, Our loving Mom, Gram, and Great Gram, Margaret “Petie” Palmquist passed to her peaceful eternal rest.

Petie, of 1208 Michigan Ave. Gladstone, was born July 15, 1921, to Leo and Marie (Matthews) Brock. She was a life long resident of Kipling / Gladstone.

Through out her life, she worked at many jobs: driving logging trucks and blueberry trucks for her brothers as well as the Lierman Ice truck hauling ice off of Bay de Noc, working at the paper mill during WWII, selling Christmas trees in Chicago, painter and cleaner at the Sleepy Lagoon Motel in Kipling in the 50’s, school bus driver for Brampton Twps. School in the early 60’s, and retired in 1986 from Eaton Town and Yale.

Petie participated in a variety sports such as women’s softball, men’s hockey team, skiing, ski jumping, figure skating, fishing, and hunting. She was known in her family for her bread making and awesome cooking.

Petie was married to Edward Blair who died of WWII injuries in 1948. She later married Walter Palmquist who passed away in 1991.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Palmquist Meyer of Gladstone, a son, Peter (Amy) Blair of Wallace, two grandsons, Thomas (Carla) Meyer of Kipling and Jason (Becky Hilgert) Blair of Allegan, MI.

She is also survived by her Great Grand’s who always held a special place in her big loving heart, Matthew Thomas Meyer and Alicia Marie Meyer.

In addition to her parents and husbands’ deaths, two sisters, Rose and Mary and four brothers, Edward, Frank, Louis, and Victor Brock preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 30 from 2-5 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Services with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow of the All Saints Catholic Church will follow at the Skradski Funeral Home. Luncheon will follow services in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Burial will follow luncheon at the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
