Marymay Kasten, age 87, of 1209 Joliet Road, Marquette passed away Saturday morning July 4, 2009 at her residence in Marquette.
Marymay was born September 21, 1921 in Gladstone the daughter of Francis H. and Matilda (VanDamme) Quinn. She was raised in Gladstone and she was a 1939 graduate of Gladstone High School. Following graduation, Marymay attended and graduated from Beauty School in Detroit.
Marymay was united in marriage to Ralph H. Kasten on September 19, 1945 at the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. They lived in numerous locations in Lower Michigan while Ralph was a State Trooper for the Michigan State Police. They retired to Marquette in 1970. Ralph preceded her in death on November 25, 1995.
Marymay was a member of the St. Peters Cathedral in Marquette and the Marquette County Quilters Association. Her hobbies included quilting, reading, cooking and spending time with her family.
Survivors include:
1 son; Timothy (Linda) Kasten of Vassar, MI
2 daughers; Mary (Dennis) Clowers of Marquette and Connie (Richard) Shaw of Green Bay, WI.
2 brothers; John (Donna) Quinn and Tom (Lois) Quinn, both of Gladstone
3 sisters; Alice Wiltzius, Theresa (Marvin) Pouliot, Ann Rose (Robert) Daly, all of Gladstone.
8 grandchildren; Peter, Thomas, Nickolas, Shayna, Casey, Quinn, Bud and Maggie.
1 great grandson; Tyler

In addition to her parents and husband, Marymay was preceded in death by her son, Noel Q. Kasten in 2003, 3 brothers, Patrick, James and Dennis Quinn, and 1 sister, Frances Cowell.
Marymay’s family will receive friends on Tuesday July 7, 2009 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4:00 PM at the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church parish hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
