Astrid E. “Fia” Potvin, age 99, of 217 Dakota Avenue, Gladstone, passed away Friday afternoon July 10, 2009 at the Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba where she had been a resident.

Astrid was born November 4, 1909 in Kipling the daughter of John and Edla (Ironstrom) Holm. She was raised on the Skelton Road and she attended the Buckeye School. Fia was united in marriage on October 7, 1937 to Harvey J. Potvin at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. They made their home in the 500 block of Minneapolis Avenue, Gladstone where they raised their 2 children.

In her younger years, Fia was an accomplished dancer, winning several dance contests. She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone and her hobbies included cooking, music and spending time with her husband at camp.

Fia enjoyed entertaining people, making family and friends always feel welcome in her home, they always enjoyed her warm hospitality. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

10 grandchildren: Bob, Mike, Aaron, Trischa, Gary, and Henry Donovan, Julie and Bill Potvin, Wind and Mickey Larson

In addition to her parents, Fia was preceded in death her husband, Harvey on December 11, 1992, 2 brothers, Elmer and David Holm, 2 sisters, Jenny Standing and Elsie Lamberg.

Fia’s family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Funeral services celebrating the life of Astrid E. Potvin will follow at 5:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt officiating. Luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
