Joan Marmilick

Joan B. Marmilick, 71, of 1420 Minneapolis Ave. in Gladstone, died Sunday, Aug.16, 2009 at the Marquette Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming where she had been a resident for four months.
She was born Feb. 28, 1938 in Gladstone, the daughter of the late Raymond C. and Virginia (Scheer) Billings. Joan attended school in Gladstone and graduated in 1956 from Holy Name High School in Escanaba. She married Norman J. Marmilick on Feb. 8, 1959, and they had three daughters. Norman proceeded her in death on March 10, 1982.

Joan worked as a teller at the First Bank in Gladstone. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone, where she had been a Eucharistic minister and member of the funeral committee. Joan had also been an active member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club.

She relocated to the Negaunee area in 2006, to be near her daughter, Diane, who was her primary caregiver. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with a progressive neurological disease. Joan made many friends in the Negaunee area and enjoyed her weekly get-togethers with the “Lunch Bunch.” She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and Joan enjoyed attending her four grandsons’ athletic events, spending time with her sister Joyce, going to the casino, and taking trips with her daughter, Barb.

Joan Marmilick is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Marmilick of Kingsford, Linda (Patrick) Lobeck of Kingsford, and Diane (David) Faust of Negaunee;

four grandsons, Eric Faust (Chelsey Gerich) of Lansing, Daniel Faust of Marquette, Ryan Lobeck of De Pere, WI, and Matthew Lobeck of Kingsford;

her sister and brother in-law, Joyce and William Waeghe of Gladstone, a special niece, Beth (Shayne) White of Munith, MI, and three special great-nephews, Brendan, Cameron, and Jackson White,

five sisters-in-law, Billie Marmalick and Joyce Marmalick, both of Gladstone, Delores (Gordon) Hermes and Madeline White, both of Escanaba, and Mae (Bob) Skubic of Clawson, MI;

many other nieces and nephews; and her four grand-dogs, Emily, Gunnar, Gracie, and Tye.

Joan was preceded in death by husband, Norman; her parents; and four brothers-in-laws.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff on the third wing at Marquette Medical Care Facility, Fr. Jed Patrick and Pastors Steve and Marcia Solberg for their spiritual support and friendship, and Dr. Barry Johnson for his loving care of mom during the past four years. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 on Friday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. The funeral service will be Friday at 4 p.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. Fr. Arnold Grambow will offer the mass of Christian Burial. Joan’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
