Gordon L. Peterson, 76, of Stonington, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique. He was born on Oct 3, 1933 to the late Charles and Gertrude (Olson) Peterson in Escanaba and attended Central School in Stonington.
 
After completing his education, Gordon served in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed for several years in Chicago doing construction work and later sailed the Great Lakes on ore carriers for several years. Gordon specialized in doing sheet metal and mechanical work and he retired from the Delta County Road Commission after being employed as a mechanic for many years.
 
Gordon’s favorite past time was farming of which he enjoyed for several years and he also loved spending time outdoors and liked to keep busy.
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Marion Erickson and two brothers, Charles Jr. and Gerald Peterson.
 
Gordon Peterson is survived by a sister Grace from Arizona and by a brother, Richard (Lorraine) Peterson of Ensign.

Duane Peterson of Green Bay; Donald Peterson of the Green Bay area; Dale (Jane) Peterson of Stonington; Carolyn and Beverly Peterson, both of Kenosha, Wisconsin and by Betsy Harris of Ensign,

He is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews,
and by a special friend, Ethel Johnson.

The family of Gordon L. Peterson will receive friends on Tuesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Services celebrating his life will follow on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev Stephen Gauger officiating. Burial will be in the Lakewood Cemetery in Stonington. The Skradski-Boyce Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Peterson family.
