Samuel C. “Sam” Beck, age 80 of the Kipling area, passed away on Monday, January 11th, 2010 at home of an apparent heart attack
Sam was born April 11th, 1929 in the Gross area of Escanaba Township, the son of Charles and Emma (Lucier) Beck, and after age nine he was raised in Kipling where his family subsequently relocated. Sam attended local schools he was a graduate of the Gladstone High School.
Sam later entered military service, serving in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Delta County and became self-employed in the oil distributing business, having owned and operated the Sam Beck Standard Oil Company located in Escanaba. After many years of ownership and delivering heating oil to many local and faithful customers, Sam retired.
Golfing was an avid hobby for Sam, and even though he was somewhat of a private individual, Sam had a number of faithful friends, especially in the Kipling area.
Sam Beck’s survivors include:
one brother, Marland “Marley” (“Jo”) Beck of Florida,
three sisters, Charlotte “Chickie” Gerald Trekas of Arizona; Grayce Etchen of Arizona; Janet (Richard) Elson of Alaska,
and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Beck, and a sister, Beverly Schneider.
The family of Samuel C. Beck will receive friends on Monday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Services celebrating Sam’s life will follow on Monday at 3:00 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Fr. Emmitt Norden officiating. Luncheon will follow services and burial will be in the spring in the Fernwood Cemetery. The Skradski Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Beck family.
