Eleanor Mattson

Eleanore M. Mattson, age 75, of Gladstone passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, following a brief illness.

Eleanore was born May 4, 1934 in Escanaba, the daughter of Roy and Nettie (Belanger) Fraid.  She was a 1952 graduate of Gladstone High School and a 1957 graduate of Northern Michigan University. Eleanore worked as a LPN in Milwaukee, Racine and Escanaba and later continued her love of nursing by volunteering with the St. Francis Hospice for over ten years.  Eleanore married Robert Mattson on September 17, 1977. She was a longtime member of the New Horizons Ministry Church (formerly the Bethel Evangelical Free Church) in Gladstone and dearly loved her church family. She served as a Deaconess, Sunday school teacher and social chairman. Eleanore also was a longtime member of the Gladstone Fan Club and for years worked in the concession stand for both football and basketball games.  She was a Volunteer of the Year and is on the wall of fame in Gladstone High School. Besides being a lifelong Gladstone Braves fan, Eleanore was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Her son, Roy (Glenna) Makosky of Rochester, MN

Four grandchildren, Elysia (Jeremy) Halls, Dr. Jenny (Jimmy Budnik) Makosky, Daniel (Kate) Makosky and Matthew Makosky

Cousin and very good friend, Joetta (David) Fredrickson of Gladstone

Eleanore was adopted and met her birth family as an adult.  They welcomed her into their family and greatly enriched her life.  They include her birth mother, Rose Groleau (now deceased)

Three sisters, Laura Trotter of Gladstone; Virginia (Floyd) Krause of Escanaba; Dolly (Jack) Enright of Milwaukee

One brother, Richard (Rosalee) Groleau of Sallisaw, Oklahoma

Four deceased brothers, Elmer, Edward, Robert, and Jack Groleau

Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews

Eleanore’s family will receive friends on Saturday, January, 9 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the New Horizons Ministry Church in Gladstone. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM at the church with Pastor Frank Scarcelli officiating. A luncheon will be served immediately following services in the church fellowship hall.
