Edward “Eddie” C. Perman, age 80 of Gladstone, passed away on Monday, January 20th, 2010 at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Eddie was born June 9th, 1929 in the Gladstone, the son of John and Amelia (Raspor) Perman. Eddie attended local schools and was a graduate of Gladstone High School.
Eddie later entered military service, serving in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Japan. He rose to the rank of Corporal and was in charge of the Paymaster staff for the occupational army in Japan. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Gladstone and worked as a Brakeman and Conductor for Chicago and Northwestern Railroad located in Escanaba. He had the honor of being one of the last Conductors for passenger service in the UP prior to C&NW going to exclusively freight service. After over 30 years of service with the railroad he retired.
Eddie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting with family and friends. He also loved gardening, playing cards and having lunch with his former co-workers he called the “Rails”.
Eddie Perman’s survivors include:
one sister, Irene (Perman) Lauzon of St. Clair Shores, Michigan,
and 6 nieces and 2 nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Amelia (Perman) Lamberth.
Eddie’s family will receive friends on Sunday January 24, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Visitation will conclude with a Rosary Recital.
