Victor Dominic Stock Sr., 85, died peacefully in his sleep at home with his wife Betty at his side on Sat. Jan 9, 2010. Born in Gladstone on Jan 20, 1924, Victor was the son of John and Tracy (Standing) Stock. He graduated from Gladstone High School in 1942.

He was a proud veteran of the Army Air Force and served in WWII. He married the former Betty Gauthier of Munising in 1954 and together they had 6 children. Victor worked at the Munising News as a linotype operator (where he earned the nickname “Mustang”) and moved his family to Gladstone in 1964 to work at the Escanaba Daily Press until his retirement in 1982. He also worked many years at Pat and Jim’s store in Gladstone and as Gladstone Harbormaster during his retirement.

Vic loved spending time with his family. When his children were young, many winter Sundays were spent snowmobiling and teaching snowmobile repair! In the later years he especially looked forward to the holidays and spending time with his grandchildren. Vic was so loved by his grandchildren, attributed to his knack for being one of the kids himself!

Vic’s passion for fishing began during the Depression when he spent summers with his father at the wharf near Munising.He loved the fact that his boat had once been his father’s, and was a highly regarded fisherman on the waters of Bay de Noc, often followed by others who were hoping to improve their luck!Next to fishing, he always looked forward to deer season and hunted 58 consecutive years at his brother’s camp.He was a devoted Packer fan and enjoyed watching the games with his family.Victor was a lifetime member of All Saints Church.

Vic is survived by his wife, Betty, children: Cindy (Terry) Cartwright, Victor Jr.(Cindy), Paula (Bert) Hughes Jonsson , Julie (Don) Chouinard all of Gladstone, and son Steven (Leigh) of Woodland Park, Colorado; grandchildren Travis, Nathan, Brook, Becca, Todd, Dustin, Christie, Jessie, Jolee, Samantha, Cassie, Regina, Arianna, Casey, and Matthew; and great-grandchildren Killian and Moira.

He is also survived by brother and best fishing buddy Pete (Mary) Stock and sister Marilyn (John) Zimmerman.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Mary Stock.

Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Victor’s life will be conducted at 4:00PM on Wednesday January 20, 2010, at the All Saints Church in Gladstone, with Rev. Fr. Emmett Norden officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Gladstone American Legion August Mattson Post #71. All are invited and welcome to attend. The Skradski Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Stock family with arrangements.
