Ruth Szirovecz

Ruth I. Szirovecz, formerly lived at 1110 Minneapolis Ave., Gladstone and Grand Rapids, MI.  She passed away at the Bishop Noa Home on January 7, 2010 – 3 days before her 98th birthday.
 
She was born January 10, 1912 in Conneaut, Ohio and was the daughter of Hilda (Poti) and Jon Tobason.
 
The former Ruth Tobason married William J. Boyle on Dec. 4, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio.  She moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1957 and considered Grand Rapids to be her home.
 
In 1962 she married Michael Szirovecz.  Mike preceded her in death in 1990.   After Mike’s death she moved to Gladstone in 1992 to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.
 
Ruth worked as a secretary for the Kemper Insurance Agency in Grand Rapids until her retirement in 1972.  She also owned and managed several rental units with her husband, Mike.
 
Ruth was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids.  After moving to Gladstone, she joined First Lutheran Church where she was in the quilting group and Grace Circle.
 
Ruth loved her little white dog, Daisy.  She and Daisy could often be seen walking around Gladstone together.
 
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Mary (Fred) Weisse, step-sons, Ronald (Sharon) Szirovecz, Michael (Christine) Szirovecz and step-daughters Sandra Wright and Sharon (Kenneth) Duchene and nephew Richard (Judy) Tikkanen.  She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great step-grandchildren.
 
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Szirovecz, her parents and her sisters, Ingrid Paull and Leah Tikkanen, nephew, James Nelson and niece, Judy Shriner.
 
Ruth’s family will receive friends on Monday January 25, 2010 from 4:00 to 5:30 at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.  Funeral services celebrating the life of Ruth I. Szirovecz will follow at 5:30 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan Schmidt of the First Lutheran Church officiating.  Luncheon will follow services at the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall in Gladstone.  Burial will take place at the Resurrection Cemetery in Wyoming, MI.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Ruth may be directed to the Bishop Noa Home.   You can express your sympathy to the family by using the form below.
