Florence S. “Blondie Waeghe age 89, of 1019 Washington Avenue: Escanaba passed away on Sunday, June 20th, 2010 at the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba following a two month illness.
Florence was born on March 26th, 1921 at home in the Buckeye addition of Gladstone to Claude and Pearl Brodene.
Florence was united in marriage to Edmond J. Waeghe on July 22nd, 1939 at All Saints Church. Edmond Waeghe was employed as a welder at Harnischfeger ever since Harnischfeger Corp opened their Escanaba division.
Florence and Ed relocated to Escanaba in 1952 where they resided since. Ed Waeghe passed away on December 13, 1996.
Florence always enjoyed being a homemaker and keeping her home in perfect order. Until her recent illness, Florence was an independent individual and she was always at her best in times of adversity. In addition she was a person with an innate sense of style, an individual who enjoyed smiling and having a good time, and she was always proud of her Swedish ancestry.
Florence “Blondie” Waeghe’s survivors include:
a son, Jeff (Paula) Waeghe,
a daughter, Grace Ann (Ron) Heim of Hyde,
three grandchildren, Kim Marie Barron, of Minnesota, Tim (Candy) Barron of Cornell, and Amelia Waeghe of Gladstone,
three great grandchildren, Keenan Barron, Emmie Barron, and Christianne.
and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Ed Waeghe, she was preceded in death by an eleven year old son, Bruce “Buzzie” Waeghe, on July 19th, 1961. She was also preceded in death by all her siblings, Pearl Spalding , George Brodene, Ruth Holm, Vera Waeghe, Alice Brodene, and Mary Frappier.
The family of Florence Waeghe will receive friends at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Florence’s life will follow on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at All Saints Church with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Burial will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Fernwood Cemetery.
