LaVerda A. Nelson, age 70, of 14394 25.75 Road; Rapid River (Nahma Twp.), passed away Saturday July 17th, 2010, at Marquette General Hospital.
LaVedrda was born May 30th, 1940 in Nahma , the daughter of Albert and Rose (Gouin)
Pilon and she was raised in Isabella and schooled in Nahma. LaVerda was united in marriage
to Wallace A. “Wally” Nelson on December 7th, 1957 and they made their home in Isabella where they raised their family and worked their dairy farm. Wally also worked construction for Payne and Dolen and Bacco Construction Companies. Wally Nelson passed away on September 4th, 2006.
LaVerda enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, gardening, playing “Bingo”, and card playing. Watching birds and feeding birds was another enjoyable past-time for LaVerda.
LaVerda was also a member of St. Andrew’s Church in Nahma.
LaVerda Nelson’s survivors include:
2 Sons- Willie (Bonnie) Nelson of Rapid River; Ron (Clarine) Nelson of Garden Corners, MI
2 Daughters- Roseanne (Raymond) Massey of St. Ignace, MI; Ann (Todd) Segerstrom of DePere, WI
2 Brothers- Richard (Lorilie) Pilon of Isabella; John (Susan) Pilon of Escanaba
Grandchildren- James (Jenny) Nelson, Linnea Nelson, Justin Segerstrom, Calvin (Heather) Nelson, Chris (Anna) Nelson, R.C. Nelson, and Cassie Nelson.
Great-gandchldren- Sidonie, Nicklas , Shaun, and Maizie.
Also surviving LaVerda are special friends, Tammy Bender and Sally Henry, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Wally, and her parents, she was preceded in death by a twin sister at birth, Rosemary.
The family of LaVerda Nelson will receive friends on Wednesday at St. Andrew Church in Nahma from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Church with Rev. Fr.James Rotzen and Fr. Joseph Gouin officiating. Burial will be in Moss Lake Cemetery. Luncheon will follow committal services.
