William Bovin

Died August 14, 2010


William H. “Bill” Bovin , age 76, of 214 North Court Street; Gladstone and former law enforcement sergeant for the Delta County Sheriff  Department passed away on Saturday, August 14th, 2010  at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba where he was a patient for two days.

Bill was born April 17th, 1934 in Gladstone, the son of Henry “Hank Bovin and the former Mary Stemac , was a lifelong Gladstone resident and a 1952 Graduate of the Gladstone High School.

After continuing his education in Minnesota for tool and die making, he returned to Delta County and was employed at Marble Arms Corporation in that field. Bill later was employed for the Delta County Sheriff  Department  from 1970 until his retirement in 1996 as a sergeant.

Bill was a member of the First Lutheran Church and its’ dart-ball league and the Gladstone Smear League and was a former member of the Gladstone Volunteer Fire Department and the Lions Club. Fishing, hunting, were additional past-times of Bill’s and he became an avid golfer later in life. However, going to camp was always a very special occasion for him and he cherished his time there with family and friends and considered that location as a second home.

In addition to his loving wife of over 48 years, the former Germaine “Gerry” Neveu, whom he married March 10, 1962, Bill Bovin’s survivors include:

2 Sons-Wm. Brian Bovin of Gladstone; David (Mary Getzloff) Bovin of Two Rivers, Wisconsin,

1 Daughter-Brenda Garlow of Gladstone,

2 Brothers- Duane (Nancy) Bovin of Gladstone; Douglas (Bonnie) Bovin of the Round Lake area Alger County,

1 Sister- Patricia (Edward )McCarthy of the Soo Hill area,

6 grandchildsren; Kristy and Kayle Bovin,  Jennifer ,Stacy ,Amanda and Amy Garlow and nieces,nephews, and cousins.

The family of William “Bill” Bovin will receive friends on Wednesday at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00p.m. Services celebrating Bill Bovin’s life will follow on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church.  Luncheon will follow services at the First Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall. Burial will be on Thursday.
