Alvin J. “Slim” Jackovich, age 88, of 217 Dakota Avenue, Bay View Manor, passed away Friday August 27, 2010, at his residence in Gladstone, following a brief illness.
Slim was born February 24, 1922, in Gladstone, the son of Louis and Julia (Gregory) Jackovich. Slim was raised in Gladstone and attended the Buckeye school. At the young age of sixteen, Slim worked for the Civil Conservation Corp. where he was employed planting trees for the forestry service. On December 30, 1944, Slim was united in marriage to the former Betty Miner at the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. Together Slim and Betty made their home, raised their family and spent their entire lives in Gladstone. Slim worked for various employers before acquiring a position at the K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base where he worked until his retirement. Slim was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone. He enjoyed playing dominos, exploring with his metal detector, hunting and being in the outdoors. Slim was an active member of the Gladstone Senior Center and enjoyed being a senior companion well into his late eighties. In addition, he enjoyed taking trips to the casino, oil painting, feeding the deer and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

2 Sons: James (Marie) Jackovich of Green Bay, WI; Richard (Terri) Jackovich of Bark River, MI
2 Sisters: Florence Johnson of Escanaba, MI
Rose Ratkovich of Escanaba, MI
2 Grandchildren: Kelly (Todd) Poole and Jeff (Lisa) Jackovich
5 Great Grandchildren: Sean, Jeff, Matt, Josh and Anna
Also listed among the surviving family are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Slim was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Julia; loving wife, Betty; brother, Joe Jackovich and sister, Margaret Jackovich.
The Jackovich family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2:30PM to 5:00PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Alvin J. “Slim” Jackovich will follow visiting hours, at 5:00PM, at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone, with Rev. Fr. Arnold Grambow of the All Saints Church officiating. Luncheon will follow at the Bay View Manor in Gladstone. Slim will be laid to rest next to his wife Betty on Thursday, at 10:00AM, at the Fernwood Cemetery.
